Siskin’s, ‘We Are Siskin’ might go down as a decent longplaying debut; one without a vocal, lyric, arrangement or note even remotely out of place and that’s entirely due to the artistic connection shared by Sue McLaren and Suzanne Chesterton. It’s one that saw them define their sound with their very first release and then emphasise it with every one that’s followed!
As artists in their own right, Sue McLaren and Suzanne Chesterton have covered a good deal of stylistic ground. However, as Siskin, they’ve shaped, focused and honed that into their artistic quintessence, doing it all in a little over 12 months and, as of today, seven singles as they sign off their ‘Seratonin EP’ with ‘Always You’.
If you’ve been feeling any of Siskin’s pressure of late, you’ll also recognise that it comes with a different feel than you may be used to. Last year, the sister-ship of Sue McLaren and Suzanne Chesterton released the ‘Dopamine EP’, which presented a four-pack of tracks that outlined their style.
Back in Feb, through the track ‘Fly Away’, the singing sisterhood of Siskin signed off their ‘Dopamine EP’ in style. Since, Sue McLaren and Suzanne Chesterton have let ‘Villaneve’, ‘Electric Love’, ‘Never Alone’ & ‘Fly Away’ live out there for people to fully absorb.
Sharing common musical cause with their Black Hole debut last month, ‘Electric Love’ is the natural successor to ‘Villaneve’. Singers, songwriters and producers Sue McLaren and Suzanne Chesterton formed the group after their musical kinship grew. One listen to the track will possibly tell you all you need to know about that affinity.
