Dennis Sheperd’s apparently been on a journey, and it’s been one he’s documented album-by-album each step of the way. Through title and theme, ‘A Tribute To Life’, ‘Fight Your Fears’, ‘Find The Sunrise’ and 2022’s ‘Onwards // Upwards’ have all touched on, alluded to or out-and-out addressed the area of mental wellbeing.
Long before lockdown, Dennis Sheperd was possibly way ahead of the conversational curve, addressing the areas of mindfulness and mental wellbeing through his 2015 album, ‘Fight Your Fear’. Given that six years elapsed between that LP and 2021’s ‘Find The Sunrise’, you could be forgiven for a sense of surprise at the speed with which he’s achieved ‘Sunrise’s follow-up.
A fair amount is made in music’s realm of ‘the personal album’. In truth though all artist albums are inherently personal - the only distinction being to what degree. By his own acknowledgement, Dennis wrote his third longform predominantly for fans, but also - in part – for himself. Starting the year 2019 in what he described as “a very dark place”, he utilised ‘Find The Sunrise'’s process as a cathartic tool of articulation, and one with which to face a personal demon or two.
The final single action ahead of the January 2021 release of ‘Find The Sunrise’ – Dennis Sheperd’s third studio album - sees the German producer release ‘Playing With Fire’. Created in concert with Dutch singer/songwriter Eke (whose previous works include collaborations with Headhunterz, Ruben de Ronde and others), the track was sparked over musings between the pair on relationships past.
