Laidback Luke and Henry Fong team up for ‘Mami’, a Latin bass house track featuring a vocal chop, FM bass, and percussion. The bouncing bassline created by the two producers lays the groundwork for the Baile Funk Portuguese sample. Calling on the Dirty Dutch era of music that Laidback Luke helped push, the track encompasses high-octane energy aimed at the dancefloor.
Laidback Luke: “I’ve loved Henry’s stuff for a long time! When we got to the studio, he told me about his obsession with UK bass house. Alternatively, I really want to bring the Dutch beats back, so the combination of the two genres resulted in this unique banger. Portuguese vocals always sound edgy so that’s a really nice bonus to the track.”
Henry Fong: “When Luke and I got into the studio, we wanted to recreate the feeling of the 2010’s dutch house era… big drums and vocals on the drop but evolved for 2025. We finished the whole song in almost three hours and it just came out effortlessly!”
‘Mami’ is out now on Dim Mak.
