Possibly known for his creations on imprints including Spectrum, This Never Happened and Purified Records, French producer Aalson recently returned to Purified with his three-track ‘Daylight EP’. The title track aims to encapsulate the magic of daylight in sonic form, blending instrumentation and synths across basslines.
Moving into ‘Echoes Of Dawn’, nature samples are paired with breakbeat patterns to achieve its atmosphere. Closing with ‘Dreamland’, he builds a cinematic arrangement that fuses classical and contemporary elements to effect.
Aalson: “The ‘Daylight EP’ is an exploration of the different ways I use the piano in my productions and play with the different lights it brings to a piece of music. I wanted to offer three different axes of my music with the piano as the centrepiece, including a melodic house 4/4 track (representing daylight), then a breakbeat (representing the light of dawn) and finally, a fully cinematic project (representing the blurred light of a dream).”
Passionate about film music and techno, he creates his own universe by crossing these two strong influences. Guided by his feelings, he developed a personal taste and a subtle approach to production, loaded with feelings over the years.
The EP artwork captured a shot of a humpback whale gliding through the ocean and was captured by photographer Daniel Nicholson.
