PAAX Feat. Sakhe The Conqueror

The global rise of Afro House continues bringing with it new opportunities for international artists to collaborate with burgeoning African talent. This is exactly what has happened with DJ duo PAAX and vocalist Sakhe The Conqueror on ‘SELA’ out now on Scorpios Music.

This project emerged from a partnership between record label Scorpios Music and the non-profit organisation Bridges For Music, which is dedicated to empowering young creatives from under-served communities in Cape Town. The project aims to shine a spotlight on the important and vital work that Bridges For Music undertakes and all of the proceeds from this record will be donated directly.

Argentinian DJ Duo PAAX are possibly known for their organic, experimental, deep tech and house sound that they play on dancefloors. They have forged their sound by bringing together multicultural influences and exotic instruments.

They were invited to be part of this project, which was an ideal fit for them to collaborate with Cape Town’s Sakhe The Conqueror. Sakhe delivered authentic isiXhosa vocals which elevated the release and ultimately fused the two cultures together. The result was ‘SELA’, bringing PAAX’s sound into a new musical realm.

Sakhe The Conqueror is an Afro-soul and house vocalist, producer, DJ and songwriter from Cape Town. She is also an alumnus of Bridges Academy, and was discovered by BFM Records, an independent South African label dedicated to supporting artists in realising their vision and reaching global audiences.

This cultural fusion has created a track full of energy and rhythm, blending guitar licks from Cuban player Emilio Campos Rojas with Sakhe’s lyrics, ones that encourage us to drink the water of life (or to take the music as a message of healing).

In addition, producer Jean Claude Ades provides a club-focused remix, sprinkling uplifting melodies.
