Sam Shepherd, aka Floating Points, recently announced a five-hour DJ set for Boiler Room NYC on Wednesday, 17 July, at H0l0. The set comes shortly after the announcement of his new forthcoming album, Cascade, which will be released on 13 September.
Devised as a continuation of ‘Crush’, ‘Cascade’ pushes his sound forward into new places. Many of its nine songs last for up to eight minutes at a time, allowing for a more expansive exploration of sounds and grooves than before. Almost a decade on since ‘Elaenia’, his debut album, he has discovered ways to thread his experiments outside of club music into his music aimed for the dancefloor.
‘Cascade’ follows the success of Mere Mortals, his first ballet score, created with the San Francisco Ballet, which apparently sold out each night of its multiple runs.
Boiler Room is an independent music platform connecting club culture to the wider world, on screen and live through parties, film and video. The platform started with a webcam taped to a wall, opening a keyhole into London’s underground.
Since 2010, they’ve built an archive spanning over 8000 performances by more than 5000 artists across 200 cities, reaching more than ‘283+ million per month’.
