Matt Fax releases ‘Behind Blue Eyes’, a progressive house reworking of the rock track and the latest single from his forthcoming studio album. Originally written and recorded by The Who and released on their 1971 album ‘Who’s Next’, the track was notably covered by Limp Bizkit in 2003 and went on to be a hit for the group, reaching No.1 in the Czech Republic and Sweden and charted in the top three in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Norway.
Matt’s version keeps the vocal intact, but brings the song definitively into his space. Teaming up with singer, composer and one-third of D&B band Sleeping Dragon Chris Howard, he juxtaposes the plaintive lyrics alongside progressive melodies and synth lines to create this track.
Matt Fax: “‘Behind Blue Eyes’ started as a personal version of this classic The Who track I was listening to a lot while making the album. The lyrics totally echoed what I was feeling, when you feel like nobody understands you. It's one of the most important tracks of the upcoming album."
The track is the second single to be released from Matt’s forthcoming studio album ‘The Story Of The Fall’ which will see him stepping out from his usual progressive-driven sound.
Set for release in July 2023, the 12-track album traverses a wide range of electronic sub-genres. From club-ready, gritty basslines and cascading synths to melodic, vocal-led cuts, it embodies Matt’s 11-year path to the producer he is today, and lays the foundations for his sound for the future.
Celebrating over a decade in the industry, the French DJ/producer continues to be part of the melodic house and progressive scene. His releases have graced labels such as Enhanced, Colorize, Anjuna and Armada and at just 27 years of age he’s already ticked off a host of career achievements, including two previous albums and the career-spanning compilation X released in 2022.
