Hot off the back of ‘Legend’, a possible early 2023 highlight, Adam Beyer continues his streak with ‘Simulator’, which sees him and Green Velvet re-unite for their first musical outing since ‘Space Date’ in 2018. The title track apparently stands as one of the most popular Drumcode releases of the last decade and reinforces the musical synergy between Beyer and the Cajual Records founder.
Initially beginning life as a solo production in 2019, Beyer developed it over a number of years, later realising the track’s groove reminded him of a classic Green Velvet production ‘Destination Unknown’. After re-connecting with the Chicago artist, the track as we know it, quickly came to fruition.
A rugged techno production, it’s characterised by industrial grooves, oscillating effects and one of Green Velvet’s deft vocal lines - ‘constant stimulation inside the simulation’.
Out now, it’s a track that’s apparently been doing the business everywhere from the Ultra events in Miami, Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi, to Awakenings, a release that was pegged in between Beyer’s first solo shows at Coachella, where he headlined the Yuma stage.
