After working with Ben Sims’ Symbolism with the ‘Galaxian’ compilation track in 2021, Black Girl/White Girl make their EP debut on his Hardgroove imprint this month with the ‘Fluid Humanism EP. Bassy, swinging and grounded with rhythm tracks, the EP is all about throwing down. The bass, percussion and vocal sample-driven ‘Ascension’ opens with a distinct Dance Mania aesthetic that continues throughout the three-tracker.
‘Metaphysical’, although a touch denser and headier thanks to a beeping topline that slips out of tune at just the right moments, keeps the funk at the forefront before ‘Alpha Wave’s hyperactive shuffle and tension/release allows the bassline to do its thing.
With his DJ sets and releases for the likes of He.She.They, Balkan Vinyl and their own self-released output, Black Girl/White Girl are aiming to make the right kind of waves and ‘Fluid Humanism’ should contribute nicely.
Black Girl / White Girl ‘Fluid Humanism’ EP is out now on Hardgroove.
