WaterBear and Toolroom Records recently announced the world’s first degree course run in partnership with a record label. The BA (Hons) Electronic Music & Business (Toolroom Academy) enables musicians to learn from inside the electronic music industry. This is a unique programme and an opportunity to get industry access and mentorship from a known dance music label.
In the course, students get production tuition from Toolroom’s leading artists, and receive detailed A&R feedback on their music from industry professionals. They will also work on real-life music marketing campaigns, and make connections. Alongside this, they’ll also get tuition expertise and support from the WaterBear team.
Each week, students will hone production skills, sound engineering techniques, compositional skills, and expand their creativity. They’ll also be able to showcase their music live on stage in WaterBear’s own real music venue, or in the studio.
There are also regular networking events, masterclasses, collaboration and work opportunities so students can build their contacts list.
Students can choose to either study online via the two-year accelerated BA Hons Degree, which begins January 2022; or onsite in Brighton via the three-year, full-time on-campus option, which starts September 2022.
All students get bookable access to a recording studio and DJ/mixing suite, as well as free rehearsal time.
This partnership course is fully accredited and approved by one of the UK’s specialist universities for the creative industries, Falmouth University.
For students studying on the two-year online course, they’ll also receive a £750 bursary to invest in new equipment and a Slate All Access software bundle, so they can learn on their own gear.
