East London club, Fold, launch their new label with the ‘Common Assault' EP from UK producer Gareth Wild. The four-track EP, which is due for release on a limited vinyl run, is aimed at heavy-hitting sound systems and has apparently been tested out on their own dancefloor. This EP marks the start of something new for the brand as they aim to build their presence in the electronic music world.
Gareth has apparently already left a significant mark with his labels Ear To The Ground and LDNwht. His journey through raves started with jungle in the early-90s through to booking techno events across London and it’s these influences that have given his productions their sound.
Side A of the EP opens with ‘Livewire’, a deep chugging jam, complete with vocal chants and a kick drum. It’s coupled with the ‘Livewire - Roll Dann Remix’, which strips back the original, adding a touch more energy through hi hat rolls and a breakdown.
On the flipside, ‘Common Assault’ brings an acidy wobble of a bassline with dark, low-end drums and droney pads. ‘Saturn Storm’ rounds off the EP, throbbing through the speaker with a hook that keeps on going as it aims to be an ever-present in the record bags of DJs across the techno spectrum.
An exclusive digital bonus track, ‘Livewire - Roll Dann Remix 2’, will be available for download, which offers another take on the first track.
The EP will be distributed via Triple Vision and is available in record stores and via Bandcamp from 25 September.
