German duo Monkey Safari make a step away from their own Hommage label for a debut on Get Physical Music. For the best part of the last decade now, Lars Rühlemann and Sven Fröhlich AKA Monkey Safari have been attempting to serve up a quirky and curious take on house music that aims to bring real character to the dancefloor.
They have put out three full lengths as well as almost 30 EPs, and have made their Hommage label in the process. Here they open their account with ‘Mantra’, a house track with humid, jungle-like atmospheres, woodblock hits and elastic bass that builds the pressure.
‘Tollo’ then establishes another groove, this time with spoken word vocals intoxicating you further as the rubbery drums and soft, fat hits get you deeper into the groove. This is late night dance music aimed at intimate parties and escapist experiences.
