Lauryn Hill’s songwriting has influenced contemporary music across Africa, from West African flows to North African revolutionary hip-hop groups. The singer—who in recent years has played shows in South Africa, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Senegal—recently performed her first ever concert on Nigerian soil this August at Lagos sold-out Eko Hotels & Suites.
Okayafrica TV was there to capture Lauryn’s electrifying performance, which saw her running through ‘Miseducation’ staples and Fugees classics alongside a 20-man band. During her stay, she also paid her respects to Fela Kuti at the New Afrika Shrine, where she was accompanied by Seun Kuti, Kunle Kuti and her daughter Sarah Marley.
