Mia Dora return to Glasgow Underground this month with the ‘Jezebel’ EP, backed with remixes from Walker & Royce and another from ThermalBear. Mia Dora, better known to their friends as Al Quinn and Robert Etherson, have taken huge strides in their career of late, dropping material via Kerri Chandler’s MadTech Records, Jaymo & Andy George’s Moda Black and of course Glasgow Underground where they return to here following a string of remixes for the likes of Romanthony, Admin and Walker & Royce.
MadTech have now enlisted the duo for a follow up single to ‘You In The Future’ and Optimo Trax will unearth some fresh material from the pair very soon.
Title track ‘Jezebel’ opens things up, a raw percussive-led workout, laid out over seven minutes with an ever-evolving dynamic and enthralling groove, fusing organic rhythms, dubbed out vocal licks and a bumpy tom-driven bassline.
Up next are two reworks of ‘Jezebel’ on offer, the first of which comes from Last Night On Earth artist ThermalBear. The British producer offers up a New-Jersey tinged interpretation here, tipping the focus towards smooth chord progressions, swinging drums and tension building strings. Crosstown Rebels, NYC based artists Walker & Royce step up after to deliver a gritty analogue interpretation, stretching out the groove of the original cut into a brooding, ethereal number with elongated bass tones, cascading synth chords and weighty, raw rhythms.
Closing the release is ‘Sex Lines’, the second original from Mia Dora in the package, which sees the duo merge hip-house vocal lines, bumpy Chicago drums and bubbling synth sounds, with a penetrating sub hook and expansive atmospheres to round off the package. It’s out 21 April on Beatport, 5 May everywhere else.
