After a hugely successful debut event last year, the Scottish Soulful Weekender returns for three more massive days at The Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries, Scotland, from Friday 2nd November until Sunday 4th November. With its proximity to the border with England, the event is sure to attract house and soul worshippers from all over the country, keen to soak up the vibe generated by over 70 international DJs and live acts playing the best in soulful music across the dance music spectrum.
Spread across four arenas, SSW2 showcases headliners such as New York DJ, Tony Humphries; Baltimore’s DJ Spen; Norway’s Prins Thomas; Motor City Ensemble from Germany; UK DJs Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson and Greg Wilson; soul and jazz DJs Ian Levine, Snowboy and Ian Wright and Live Acts such as Driza-bone, E-Man, Ray Harris Fusion Experience and Darrow Fletcher.
DJ Yogi Haughton, doyen of numerous Southport and Prestatyn weekenders and devotee and evangelist of rare, top-quality black music, is behind the SSW and is a legendary longstanding Scottish DJ. Never one to stand still musically, Yogi has added a new room this year, The Blue Room, where the emerging edits, slo-mo house and nu disko scenes will be taken care of by the likes of Prins Thomas, Al Kent and Motor City Drum Ensemble. Yogi has also pioneered The Goldmine, a room offering record enthusiasts and DJs a platform to play at such an event, and it was so successful at the original SSW that four DJs who played last year have now graduated to the weekender line up proper. It’s also proved so popular again this year that all 30 slots have already been taken! SSW2 has introduced the Wildcard DJ slot, where once you have purchased your ticket, you can go to The Goldmine and submit your name and a mix with a view to be the lucky winner who will be playing alongside the headliners in the Main Arena of your choice!
Yogi: “SSW keeps true to its promise of providing a massive platform for the rarest of the rare, the most soulful of the soulful and the most jackin’ of house beats to be found anywhere. We certainly are looking forward musically but we do keep one foot firmly in the past and if you love ALL forms of black music, this is the weekender for you. The people that attended last year’s Weekender loved the venue, the crowd, the sound, the staff. Everything just felt right and you only have to read the DJ testaments relating to last year’s gig to see that.”
