HNQO - Point Of View (Hot Creations)
We go nice and deep this Thursday with this new ‘Point Of View’ EP from Henrique Oliveira aka HNQO, which is forthcoming on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations label. There are two tracks to choose from, main track ‘Point Of View’ and ‘Pain ‘n’ Love’, both equally good. ‘Point Of View’ is a very deep, moody affair with a groove that will sound fantastic on quality sound systems in the cooler clubs around the world. It has an intermittent female vocal in the track, no more than a few lines of a song, its minimal approach all adding to the track’s appeal. Nice.
Second track, ‘Pain ‘n’ Love’ is more lovely deepness, but this time has a full spoken word vocal from Effluence, a Caribbean born poet, writer and performer who now resides in Canada. We actually prefer this track, purely as we’re suckers for a good vocal and the snippets of sax that add to the music. Her voice, its story and how it’s used in the track is tremendous. Both tracks are strong enough in their own right, so what one is best really is down to each listener’s personal taste. This could be a big year for HNQO, with this release next month, projects on his own label Playpreview and another EP about to drop on UK label Midnight Social Recordings (today?).
